A TBT on this 2015 project. With my friend and sound engineer Felipe Garrido we put together these beautiful horn speakers. Everything tended to be massive in this project.
A massive bi-radial constant directivity horn JBL 2360a paired with a modern german coaxial compression driver (BMS). The woofer is 18 inches. The custom crossover was designed in the computer using near field frequency and impededance measurements.
It came quite well, the horns and the big woofers create a dispersion effect that just sounds open, it's hard to describe but you can feel how the sound waves propagate in a different way.
With a very high sensitivity, it was possible to use the speakers with the tiniest single ended triode valves that I was aware of at that moment. 71a (0.4W) and 45 (1.5W). Great tone, soundstage and dynamics.
I moved to Canada but the speakers stayed at Chile. Later on, they were used in multiple small private music events by musicians in Chile.
